WE DID IT!!!

The Home and School Committee would like to thank each and every one of you for your participation today.  We would have never been able make so many improvements to the school and build a wonderful playground if we didn’t have all of your help.

A big thank you goes out to our partner in this project, the Rotary Club of Charlottetown Royalty.  To the co-chairs, Dick St. John and Debbie Phillips, you have been fabulous and instrumental in this project.   We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for you both.  Your wisdom, support and guidance throughout this whole project has been priceless to us.  We are very grateful that you joined our project.  It was like winning the lottery the second time!

Another huge thank you goes out to our principal, Debi Mais Murphy, Vice Principal, Mark Kelly, and Guidance Counselor Josie Kelly Kenny.  These last few weeks have been overwhelming at times with meetings and planning for today and I must say that these three have never stopped.  If it weren’t for them we wouldn’t have been able to pull this all together, so thank you so much!   Our children are very lucky to have you three as every day role models.   Also, to all of the teachers who constantly supported us with this project.  Thank you for going above and beyond with all of your support.  We know you all have helped in every way possible and we appreciate it!

Most of all I want to thank the children and families of St. Jean.  To the students - Thank you for picking out such an awesome playground at the Dotmocracy!  It is wonderful.

To the parents - Thank you for your constant support with our fundraising.  Every time your child bought a cookie or wore their pajamas to school you helped put another piece of this playground together!  This playground has proven that when we put our minds to it we can achieve ANYTHING!!!

Most of all to LTBK - thank you for all the wisdom, guidance and support!  It was priceless! If it wasn't for you we would have never seen this dream come true today!  THANK YOU!

We are so proud of what our school did today.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Today is the Day!

Today is Build Day!!!  It is going to be a wonderful day!

It is not to late to come and help volunteer.   Hope to see you there!

Playground Project Update

Well, we are now a few days away from our build day, and construction has already started on the playground.  Make sure to take a drive by to see all the progress that has been made this far.

VOLUNTEERS
Thank you to everyone who has signed up to volunteer.  It is great to have you on board!  In the next few days a committee member will be contacting you to finalize your job and volunteer time.  We have assigned everyone to a job but don’t worry there will be lots of time to watch the events unfold.  It is going to be a fun day.

WAVIER AND RELEASE FORM
This form will be emailed to you prior to the event; please fill it out and bring it with you on build day (May 26).  This will speed up the registration process and will help to get you working and making a difference quicker!

PARKING
We have arranged for parking on the day of the build.  You are welcome to in the Kwik Kopy parking lot at 91 Euston St. and at Invesco located at 119 Euston St.
Thank you to both businesses for their support.

PLAYGROUND DEDICATION
All Let Them Be Kids projects dedicate the finished playground to a fallen hero or another important community member.  We have chosen Captain Nichola Goddard.   Captain Nichola Goddard, (May 2, 1980 – May 17, 2006) was the first female Canadian combat soldier killed in Afghanistan.   We chose Nicola because we believe that her passion, drive, determination and love of life are characteristics that we want our children and their school community, to strive for throughout their lives.  On the day of the build, there will be a ceremony at 2pm celebrating our community and Captain Goddard.

CHILDREN
We are excited to have volunteers helping out the day of our build but would not want to see anyone getting hurt on this very positive and enjoyable day.  We are not providing childcare but will have supervised children's activities for children ages 4-10 for those parents volunteering on the day of the build.  Activities will include, children's games, crafts, etc.  Hope to see and your children on the day of our build!

FAQs
v  What to wear?  Dress for activity; although none of the work is overly strenuous, you should be dressed for working around the “yard”.  If you are painting, working on the playgrounds or any of the other types of work... you are going to get dirty and want to dress for it...please no open toe shoes or sandals; better safe than sorry.  Please bring work gloves if you have them!
v  What is the schedule for the day?  You will receive a schedule for the day one week prior to the event and it will be posted on the web site at that time as well.
v  What if it rains?  The project goes rain or shine...only in a case of extreme weather would we postpone...in the unlikely event that happened, we would go the following Saturday.
v  When do we eat?  Coffee will be served in the morning and lunch will be served from 11:30 am till 1 pm.  More info to come.
v  Any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask by calling the school (368-6985), or go to our website for more info (www.stjean.ltbk.ca).

Again, thank you in advance for your help and your willingness to build a brighter today and a better tomorrow for the kids.

Many Thanks!

Things are coming together.  Many thanks to Pepsi who has taken on the challenge of providing drinks for Build day.
A huge thank you also goes out to Home Depot for providing us with a large donation of tools, paint, and many other things for the big day.
We have also received help from the City of Charlottetown who are supplying wheel barrels for the day too.  What an amazing community we have here!

So Thirsty!

We need your help.

Do you know or own a business that could provide water, soft drinks and juice for Build Day?  Build Day is next weekend and we have over 150 hard working volunteers signed up for the day and boy are they going to be thirsty.

Please contact any of the committee members found on the contact page or you can call the school itself at 368-6985 if you can help us with this donation.  Thanks!
